Hi Latonnya,
For some reason I'm just seeing this now. Savannah was good, maybe I told you I saw Paula Dean's restaurant and thought of you? How was the closing weekend? Gwylene just sent me the second part of the catalogue- looks great. It was good working with you too. Keep in touch!
Best, Ruby

Hey Latonnya

I wanted to let you know that I was in Dalston (where I live, East London) the other day and in the market I saw strings of bobbles hanging, in all different colours!! I suppose they were scarves for the winter, but it made me laugh, and happily remember our journey, finding the right materials to decorate the gallery space.

The Winter has definitely started to set in here, and the damp in my study is rather depressing, but apart from that life is good, and us poor artists feel little of the credit crunch. Theron and I are off to India next week. But we'll be thinking of you all, and can't wait to hear all about closing weekend....

I did not finish my last message!
Be sure I will be with you this week-end. I often look at the pictures we made in Charleston and all comes back to my mind vividly!
Take a good care of yourself!
with many hugs

Hello Latonnya,
We think to your all during this closure week-end, hoping that it will open up on many new projects, both personal and collective. I hope you are doing well and have started studying the field that interests you and for which you have already accumulated so many experiences.
My mother just passed away, unexpectedly. It is very painful for me and for all my family. Her funerals were wonderful and moving. Hundreds of people came to greet her a last time. She now rests at peace in her lovely village in the mountains. I am about to leave to help emptying her house and treasures of our childhood that are still in there...

Dear Latonnya,
It was a pleasure meeting you too. I enjoyed working with you and admire your professionalism. I have been thinking about you and your planned project on the senseless violence in our communities.
Your project is important and it resonates with so much that is happening today, not only in our communities but also around the world.

Violence
War
Genocide.

Ice Cube, the rap artist, recently produced a music video where he shows the grieving relatives of a 17 year old victim of violence.

The link to the article "Dead athlete's relatives star in Ice Cube video" on CNN.COM is below-

Not much is often said about the impact the death of a victim of violence has on his loved ones.

The Pain
The Regret
The Sorrow.

Here also is an excerpt from the poem "Between the Stop Sign and the Bullet" by Obiwu from his collection of poems"Tigress at Full Moon" 2008.

Her fingers played on invisible keys
Her entrapped audience swooned in
Chorus of the one who was known as
Brother,cousin,father,uncle,husband,lover,son
All boys buried before they became men

She stood firm at the podium
Her defiant voice rose in praise of
The men of her youth, playground mates
Weightless mates who were caught
Between the stop sign & the bullet

-Obiwu 2008

Make this project work Latonnya. Let your voice be heard.
All the Best,
Marcia.

Hello Latonia!
I miss you too! Your presence, for all of us, was very important from the beginning to the end. The "last supper", when you invited all of us before we left, was wonderful and already somehow nostalgic; so much had been going on, not only in the show but between all of us, and you have been a great and excellent "facilitator", as would Jean-Marie, to help us cope with Charleston, the café, the bus, the who is who, etc... Thank you Latonia and don't forget to keep in touch!

Looking forward to reading more about your project. Please send me that other ROOTS document you wrote too! By the way, I've mentioned you to another artist in the UK called Tim Jeeves who is very interesting and kind and is doing something in response to a fatal shooting that took place in our neighbourhood recently. I mentioned that your work might be interesting to him.

Glad it's cooled off. Here, it is definitely cold. Cold and rainy!

Miss you all.

Hey Latonnya! I am so glad you joined the site. I've been missing you. How does it feel there now that we've all gone? I hope you're enjoying a bit of a rest!

Your description of your project you want to do has been very much in my head, I'm excited to see what comes of your desire to make work in public and social spaces - the images and writing you talked about sounded so powerful. Please do keep me posted.
