I am aware that now all of us artists from other countries have departed and no doubt the weather is changing there, I suspect it is very beautiful at this time of year. Oddly, due to the craziness and unpredicability of global warming, we are having a few days of Summer in London: beautiful clear hot days, swimming outside and taking walks and picnics. Strange and terrifying, with the world banks crashing and the seasons disappearing, how all these markers become mirages. The Future in on the Table indeed.
I wanted to reflect on how fast life passes by. I hardly had the time to let the traces of our project settle before I was back here, dealing with new situations including some quite tragic happenings at a group I work with. And the pace of life picked up so fast. But I am grateful for it, for the busy times and the work I have and the people I know. Last week I was lucky enough to take part in a workshop with
curious (click on the link to read about them and the project); it was called Autobiology and is a science and art collaboration looking at the relationships between emotions, experiences and their bodily manifestations. Such a luxury, to spend a week researching with these artists, and to have some very deep discussions around this topic, including making new pieces of performance. This will no doubt feed in to my future work, layered on top of The Future is on the Table and all the projects before...
And what next? Well, for me, I prepare for my next show, plan a little, do some writing and accounts, and then go to India for two weeks at the end of October. So when the final days of Charleston's The Future is on the Table happen, I'll be in
Nainital, seeing family and trying to fit in to that alien culture, remembering my moments in a sari at the Gibbes event there. I'll write more about that on my return.
